Fanfares & Fugues
Fanfares N’ Fugues is comprised of three dynamic Canadian soloists Marcus Goddard and Ray Kirkham of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, as well as organist Ay-laung Wang. These artists are well-known to the audiences in BC having performed in concert series, schools, churches and weddings.
This ensemble performs classical favorites and the trumpet literature of the masters, as well as jazz/pop standards and show tunes with equal skill and enthusiasm.
Mission
The mission of ensemble is to provide the highest quality live music for events from music concerts, both public and private, to wedding ceremonies and church services in all traditions, receptions and corporate events. All members are full time musicians who, in addition to performing at the highest level, conduct themselves in a professional, courteous manner and do their utmost to create the event and the sound that our audiences have envisioned.
The Musicians
Marcus Goddard is the associate Principal trumpet of the V.S.O. He received his bachelor degree from the University of Michigan and Masters from Indiana University. He has been principal trumpet of the Tenerife Symphony in Spain and also principal in many festivals in Europe and North America. Marcus is also an avid composer writing music for films and dances. His most recent composition "Millenia Music" was played by the V.S.O brass Quintet on the C.B.C’s west coast performance. He continues to receive commissions for his works and is currently working on a string quartet for the "Quiring" quartet. Marcus lives in Port Coquitlam with his family and two year old daughter.
Ray Kirkham is a graduate of the University of British Columbia. He has been a member of the V.S.O since 1966, joining the C.B.C orchestra and V.S.O at the same time. He is a founding member of the V.S.O Brass Quintet and the organ and trumpet ensemble "Fanfares N’Fugues". Rays accomplishments include several teaching positions at colleges, universities, summer camps , and his yearly appearances at Christmas and Easter in the churches around the lower mainland. Over his 37 year career, Ray has played with many great artists such as Arthur Fiedler, Doc Severenson, and Arron Copland. The most enjoyable moment would be playing for Pope John Paul at the Abbotsford Mass in 1984. Ray lives in Tsawwassen with is wife Kathy.
